Loved

“To be trusted is a greater compliment than being loved.” George MacDonald

This week, we are feeling loved.

As we turn the page on February, this is a wonderful feeling to have.

In my world, it is not uncommon to meet people who are passionate about their business. Not so long ago this was not the case.

Our culture expects us to hate work — new products and entire advertising campaigns are designed around the belief that we must suffer the drudgery of doing what is expected to make enough money to make ends meet.

Of course, making ends meet means different things to different people.

The LOHAS market takes a fresh approach.

This is a community-driven movement with shared values around health and sustainability and following our heart as well as the numbers to do what’s right.

It is a diverse marketplace with everything from organic foods and natural beauty products to high-tech water systems and hand-carved children’s toys.

These business owners and professionals are some of the hardest working people I have met and they fuel their efforts with the energy of passion. We are known to have the same unhealthy habits as everyone and you will hear us celebrating positive change rather than complaining about anything.

They are my people and I am my best self in their company.

Spending a little bit of time in their company is one of the best things I can do for myself. It is a bonus that spending time with them is also good for business. At each trade show, we look forward to seeing each other as much as we anticipate the new business.

More people are turning to impact-led businesses and social enterprises and a new generation is arriving in the workplace with new ideas about what is important. Known as millennials, they are the young people reaching adulthood early in the 21st century. Their world view and their priorities are different from ours. They want to make a difference. They value freedom. They recognize the importance of social responsibility. They wonder about our decisions regarding resources and the environment.

There is still a wide gap to close between what is happening and what is desirable and that gap is closing a little every single day.

With the ease of supporting each other in the digital age, we are making it easier to invite positive change.

Before we call a wrap on the month of love, we are happy to take a moment and feel the love.

We call on this constructive energy to fuel us when we have pushed a little too hard.

Who do you support with your love?
