Easy

This week, we are getting to know the goat.

The first image that comes to mind is that famous head-butt which identifies the alpha male who does not actually lead the herd, but follows the directions of the alpha female.

Goats are known for being very curious, agile and coordinated. These are traits we greatly admire, watching them climb and hold their balance in precarious places.

And they make it look easy — attractive in a world that believes life is hard.

According to a 2014 survey, 84% of Hong Kong’s professionals work more hours than required, 76% continue at home or on their mobile after hours and most admit that the extra time does not make them any more productive. The annual local survey conducted by Community Business since 2006 shows that this is a trend.

While hard work has created over 187,000 US-dollar millionaires in Hong Kong, the resulting unhappiness has led some to redefine happiness and explore ways to simplify.

Having achieved sufficient mastery in hard and complicated for myself, I see no need for more practice and I invite you to join me in my quest for easy this year.

Check the calendar for activities like mindfulness, meditation, cooking and volunteering along with talks that teach life balance instead of work-life balance — an expression that suggests that work and life are somehow separate from each other.

An easy way to regain a little life balance is to step back in order to gain some perspective. Sitting on a rock, walking through the woods, watching a bird soar — these are great reminders that most big problems are insignificant in the grand scheme of life.

When I see myself as part of the natural world, it is easier to trust that I will grow like the tree, blossom like the flower and shine like the stars on a clear prairie night.

Where is there room for a little bit of easy in your life?

Naturally,
