Timeless gifts

“A good holiday is one spent among people whose notions of time are vaguer than yours.” J B Priestly

This week, we are giving up time.

The volume is pumped on Christmas carols playing in shops. Christmas Specials arrive along with Christmas email spam all day long. The competition is heating up, as the economists call for more consumption and retailers wage their final battle to win the holiday-gift-revenue.

In this endless search for the perfect gift, we invite you to take a few minutes to look at the gifts we already have.

Some of us have the gift of music. Some of us create beautiful images. Some of us design comfortable spaces. Some of us offer healing. Some of us can make anyone laugh. Some of us listen especially well. Some of us lead communities through a vision. Some of us craft words into memorable stories. Some of us remind us of our gifts.

While we continually search outside ourselves for something that will make us perfect and whole, it is essential to reflect on our own unique gifts.

We will face challenges. We will say goodbye. We will let go, but we will never lose the gifts that bring us the joy we love sharing with those we love.

These gifts are timeless. They have no deadline. They have no expiry date.

Humans began measuring time as a useful tool for connecting with each other. Today, time has become a luxury. Although there is a fixed amount every day, we often feel that we have less today than we had yesterday. Even though we have clocks in our phones and all around us, we still appreciate luxury time pieces sold to us with the promise of time and connection.

There are moments where time seems to stop and these are the moments we remember.

We capture time and create lasting memories when we share our gifts with those we love.

When it seems like there isn’t enough time to get everything done, when it feels like its all more stress than it’s worth, remember we all have gifts to give that could never be wrapped or tied.

Even the most high-tech camera will never capture the greatest gift-exchange of all.

What timeless gift do you love sharing ?
