Your many kind words of encouragement during these years of challenge for everyone inspires me even more than the deposits that go straight to the landlord for rent, keep on top of utility bills and stock the pantry.
On the advice of friends and members, I am upping my game to build future sustainability into the business with monthly or annual subscription options. I have discovered the importance of offering voluntary contribution amounts — these are the magic elixir for HK heartbeat as they demonstrate the value of the service.
I have also added more direct payment options in to save on the chunks lost in online payment fees that can add up to 16%. Lesson learned, thank you.
With everything happening in our world right now, the argument for natural products and services with a positive impact and zero waste has never been stronger.
From what I’ve witnessed over these many moons, I believe our planet is ready for less stress and more balance. It will be great for the next 20 years to be easier than the last twenty.
Going green is a growing trend and so is greenwashing. Now, spotting the fakes is a job I could never have imagined back in 2001 but it’s becoming a real time sink for many.
We’ve got an abundance of people power to harness for good.

The new fundraising campaign is designed to provide regular monthly income to build a solid foundation.
I plan to achieve this with personal memberships (monthly/annual subscription option) and business memberships (benefit bundles include advertising credits and campaigns) to continue serving our growing network with my professional services.
Community membership remains free and everyone is invited to contribute at any time and to sponsor our complimentary social memberships.
The Plan
The achievement of each milestone will signal the beginning of the next phase.
Phase one involves raising funds to find a new space, secure a new lease and cover all of the relocation costs, including the time to set everything up and properly settle into the new HQ.
Once settled, the development budget includes business overheads, production costs, new equipment and contracting help.
With the basics covered, attention will turn to building the team that will transform heartbeat into a sustainable business. I have relied on consulting work to cover the overheads and your contribution will provide access to the resources (and assistance) required to serve the network and meet growing demand.
Sparked by my 9/11 email and launched that October, heartbeat reaches 8oo weekly subscribers, 1,000 daily website visitors (hundreds of calendar events and 2,000 directory listings) and social media followers in addition to 70,000 free copies of five print publications promoting community service and holistic wellness.
