The 3rd Homegrown Foods Annual Harvest Feast event will be hosted at one of
our partner farms and will be ticketed, giving local residents the opportunity to
attend. 50% of the dishes will be vegetarian. Special guests, customers and the
community will enjoy a afternoon on a farm with the freshest food created by 11 of Hong Kong's celebrated chefs. Tickets are priced at HK$1,488 for adults and HK$888 for
children below 12. Proceeds from the event will be donated to two charities; the
Hummingfish Foundation and the newly launched
Homegrown Foods Academy.
Previously an invite only event held indoors at a
restaurant, this year's Harvest Feast is the biggest yet for
Homegrown Foods. As a celebration of local agriculture and cuisine, 11 of
Hong Kong's talented chefs have volunteered their culinary skills to host
interactive live cooking stations at the farm. Each chef creates one dish,
comprising only all natural ingredients and at least one vegetable or fruit from
Homegrown Foods' local harvest.
The Guest Chefs are: Gregoire Michaud (The Four Seasons),
Jeremy Biasiol (The Mirror), Anthony Fletcher (The Pawn), Shane Osborn (St
Betty), Peggy Chan (Grassroots Pantry), Jack Carson (Restoration), Erik Idos (Nobu),
Vinny Lauria (Linguini Fini/Posto Pubblico), Tracy Wei (Linguini Fini/Posto
Pubblico), Matt Bishop (22 Ships) and Matt Abergel (Yardbird).
Guests are transported from the hustle of Central, to the
tranquility of the New Territories farm by private coach. The Harvest Feast is
the first Hong Kong farm-experience for many guests, allowing them the
opportunity to see for themselves, the stunning 'out-of-the-city' landscape on
which the organic vegetables are grown.
“Not only does the Harvest Feast bring together a great
collaboration of the community, chefs and agriculture, but it also gives our
customers and the public a chance to see how stunning the farms are. Too many
Hong Kong residents still trust blindly sourced food more than what is grown in
our own back yard. Physically seeing and meeting the farmers directly is the
first step towards understanding the amount of potential Hong Kong has, to grow
an amazing variety of great tasting clean vegetables” says Todd Darling,
Managing Director of
Homegrown Foods.
The self-service soiree will take place from 1pm through
5pm, combining live music and food in a fresh and relaxed alfresco setting
usually only seen in the vineyards of Europe. The guests will spend the
afternoon grazing the chef's stalls at leisure while sipping White Sangria and
bio-dynamic wines from Cuvees, micro-brewed beers from Americraft and artisanal
coffees by La Colombe. Quintessentially Events are delighted to be on-board as a
sponsor. They will be adding their signature flair for unique event production
and creative styling.
Prizes will be silently auctioned throughout the afternoon
to raise money for the two charities. The
Hummingfish Foundation was established in 2010 with a mission to protect the
earth's natural environments. Through sustainable community-based nature tourism
(diving, birding, trekking, etc) and the support of naturally sustainable
industries or 'green entrepreneurs' Hummingfish helps add economic value to
unspoiled nature.
2013 will see the launch of the
Homegrown Foods Academy. For the past three years,
Homegrown Foods has hosted a handful of school field trips to the farms,
educating young students about the differences between organic and industrial
farming and the environmental impacts that each of them has on the planet and
the earth’s resources. With the introduction of the not-for-profit
Academy,
Homegrown Foods plans to provide resources to the education sector by
expanding its field trip syllabus to more schools in Hong Kong. The syllabus
will give students an opportunity to see sustainable and organic farming
practices first hand, and allow them to form more educated opinions and
viewpoints on how their food choices directly affect themselves and the
environment.
Tickets are available for purchase at all of the
participating restaurants and from
www.homegrownfoods.com.
