This week, it feels like we are just getting started.
Over the holiday, as I reviewed the past year, I also reflected on how I started this business in the first place. During my Chinese New Year cleaning and clearing, I uncovered a personal truth in this story I wrote for AsiaSpa back in 2008. After I re-read the article, I suddenly realized my business started me.
It has been a long road since that first email in 2001.
It was a different time, then. Most people thought I was nuts and it’s a little bit true. I still get asked how I make money with heartbeat. Truth is, I manage to cover the production costs but I don’t get paid for my time, so I am always on the lookout for contracts to keep the landlord happy and continue supporting the Natural Hong Kong community.
But, when I try to stop, I find myself starting again.
When I look around and see local changes taking root, like urban farming, mindfulness programs, fair trade shopping, sustainability initiatives, organic options and life balance campaigns, I recognize my contribution. It comes as no surprise that HK has become a hotbed for these new healthy startups showcased by Green Queen.
Change is in the air. We are rested and refreshed after a lovely long break. A quick peek at the February calendar is all it takes to realize we are all set for a year of monkey business. Having polished off the chocolates and the champagne, we are enjoying Valentine’s afterglow and ready to share the love.
One of my favorite things about living in Hong Kong is the chance to begin the new year twice. Having admitted to some mistakes along the way, now is the perfect time to learn from them, build on them and start fresh. I am a big fan of the do-over.
Are you ready?
