This week, we are connecting.
Given what’s happening on our social media feeds right now, one would be forgiven for believing that an election has more impact than an earthquake.
In both cases, we are seeing people rally together.
We support each other when we connect with each other. When we look at another and feel the connection, we are moved by what we see. When the contact is authentic and sustained, we recognize our self in the other.
Everything is connected.
Although we can sustain it, this kind of bond cannot be established with the other during remote communication. It is easy to hide behind the keyboard, especially when we have chosen to not own the exchange with our real name. We can say what we think others want to hear or we can express a popular view or we can be provocative to get attention or we can share something already trending so we feel like we are part of the conversation.
We may (or not) be consciously aware that our words are not aligned with our actions, but we choose to fit in rather than stand out and face the risk of being mocked or ridiculed or even bullied.
We have seen that when many people say the popular thing but follow their own heart in their actions, the results are remarkable.
Promises are real and character is seen in actions. Witness the ongoing local cleanups, where volunteers give up their down time collecting waste that can be hazardous. Hear the words of Dr Jane Goodall who visited Hong Kong again last week to share her wisdom and hope for humanity. Feel the love shared by individual volunteers gathering in community to help the homeless. Taste the success of individuals who move through their fears and step into the life of a holistic entrepreneur.
Life in the bubble can be filled with darkness but light creeps in when we recognize we are choosing the bubble.
You can choose to meet some of our local heroes who choose sustainable progress when we gather on Thursday for 10 Years of Green Drinks with 10 Speakers. We will look back at where we were in 2006 compared to where we are today. We’ve come a long way.
Be inspired by the simple truth of physics — negative energy cannot exist without its equal and opposite in positive.
Where do you turn for connection?
