This week, we are wrapping it up and getting ready.
Even though the calendar has not yet flipped over to December, we are already bombarded with special offers while blasting holiday music competes with traffic noise to get us into the spending spirit.
Discipline is required to keep calm and carry … our packages.
At its heart, this is the season of connecting with our people, remembering our friends and making time for family. I invite you to catch up, reflect on our year and Celebrate Community with us next Thursday in Central.
We are in the midst of change and, with an abundance of negative energy in the air, it takes a bit of effort to look closer and see what’s going right.
Not so long ago, no one would have cared much about natural options but this year’s promotions are trending whole. Sadly, many messages still bear the hallmark of traditional fear-based marketing and even holistic businesses fall into the trap of mentioning horrible news to sell their healthy solutions.
My social feed is peppered with questions of where to find the latest must-have to satisfy our desire to fit in and feed our fear of being left out. So much of it relates to buying stuff we don’t really need that will end up in the landfill because we don’t have the space. It can be helpful to offer suggestions based on giving love rather than getting love.
Here are a few simple gift ideas and we will have more for you shortly in the annual Natural Holiday Guide – see last year.
Now, more than ever, it really is the thought that counts.
We give the best presents with our presence.
Economic growth still relies on the old consumption model, but I feel confident we will find significantly less plastic in the shopping of volunteers who have cleaned a beach. The work is a little easier in the cool of fall and volunteers are out making a difference every weekend. Join the fourth Fish for Trash in Aberdeen this Saturday.
Take a minute now to set your intention for the season ahead. When will you see who you want to see? What would you like to contribute. Where will you spend your time? How will you make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate? Who will you be when you’re at your best.
Are you prepared for your presence?
