Normal

This week in Hong Kong ... naturally

This week, we are questioning normal.

The concept takes on a new weight at this time.

We are entering the silly season in a serious year.

Maybe it's not normal for hunger in the midst of wealth.

It might be normal to focus on prevention instead of just waiting for a cure.

Catching a flight for a weekend getaway or a quick overseas visit is no longer normal.

Perhaps the new normal is feeding people not landfills and changing lives with laughter.

It can't be normal for an elephant to live in chains in the name of entertainment.

It is normal for an owl to live in trees and her home is not at home downtown.

Disposable is handy but it is not normal to toss single use everywhere.

Normal can be durable and convenient is not necessarily essential.

Small and smart holiday celebrations can be normal.

We keep hearing people wish for back to normal.

Others are trying to figure out the new normal.

Normal has never been my favorite adjective.

What is your now normal?

Naturally,

Now in its 15th year, this year’s event will be held online with hundreds of vendors selling fresh organic fruits and vegetables, chilled fish, dried seafood and ornamental plants along with local delicacies, kitchenware, household goods and eco-smart products -- read more.

It took 3 months to complete our first order for the new masks and I ordered extras in case you missed the deadline. Better Off Alone went from concept to product record time to reduce the volume of disposable masks clogging landfills, reaching waterways and finding their way to the sea. While tempted to use heartbeat red, I chose black (west) and white (east) to honor those who lost their lives to SARS 2.0. This new biodegradable, durable, 100% fair trade cotton eco-smart antimicrobial mask is our first branded product and I encourage everyone to make the switch to cloth. Until then, I will continue overcome my gag reflex and continue collecting discarded single-use surgical masks ... read more.
