Taking a break

This week, I am paying attention to the signs.

The computer screen is flickering and threatening to switch off again at any
moment and I am getting the message that it might be time for me to switch off, too.

Technical difficulties are temporary — please stand by …

This was going to be a brief newsletter anyway and my hardware is backing up
that decision. It is time for me to make the journey to my little patch of geek
heaven in Sham Shui Po for some long over-due upgrades. For those of you who
don’t know, I work on my own self-publishing heartbeat from my home office —
writing, editing, photography, graphics, coding, database management, site
design, registration, hosting, advertising and membership sales, accounts, media
relations, publicity, promotions, events, social media, print production,
distribution, admin/technical support … and I am the tea lady, cook, cleaner
and zero-waste consultant for my entire team of one.

It is time for a change. The static website I set up nearly 10 years ago has
grown to over 5,000 pages attracting more than 17,000 visitors per month. I
taught myself some new tricks and am nearly finished building a new private social network — currently in beta testing. Now, I am preparing to take a deep breath and shift heartbeat to the new global platform that will provide digital tools to connect you with my real world international heartbeat network of businesses and professionals offering products, services and programs for balance in life and business. This is one of the many announcements I can hardly wait to share with you in the new year and I thank you in advance for your patience.

In the meantime, we are reminded to approach all of our holiday activities
with thoughtfulness. It is a time of year when many special memories are created
with people we don’t see often. It is easy to get dazzled by tinsel and flashing
lights and it only takes a moment to remember that the theme of the season is
family. Equal in love is the family we came with and the family we choose for
our self.

I invite you to share the love this Thursday at the first SoulFood Social celebrating another year of heartbeat — it will be wonderful to see there.

Who do you love?
