This week, we are getting cool.
Life is beginning to pick up speed as the temperatures come down and we enjoy a break from the heat of summer with the change of season.
The growing number of events on the community calendar is proof that we are getting back into our groove. We are seeing more fun activities and creative approaches with the aim of raising awareness about healthy, sustainable lifestyle choices. More people are stepping into the business of wellness while others continue to commit free time to volunteer and support activities for good.
Local media is picking up on public interest in pedestrian zones, the need for urban parks, the importance of environment over development, a rare local rescue of rare turtles while introducing our meat-free friends who share their free time to share their knowledge about making conscious food choices. New wellness magazines are finally thriving and we are excited to wish Liv Magazine a very happy first birthday.
Slowly, but surely, the tide is turning and some organizations are aiming for cool but missing the mark with their traditional scarcity-based advertising filled with hype and hyberbole, all-caps, bold and exclamation points designed to scare customers into buying stuff we don’t really need. We are seeing over-packaged healthy snacks, simple nutrient-rich foods elevated to celebrity status and exotic ingredients with more air miles than we have.
Clean eating trends have us wondering what is in the majority of our food.
We will continue to make it easy for people to see that climate change is actually pollution, that pesticides designed for GMO’s are why bees are becoming an endangered species, that selling tap water as bottled water is wasteful and expensive and toxic and is a big contributor to climate change and that all of these issues are the same issue.
Everything is connected.
Soon, the general public will agree that searching for authentic information is worth more of our time than indulging in mean or mindless gossip, that haters are really hurting and that making the effort to choose right over popular brings happiness. We will be celebrating our shared beliefs and more with our cool community this month at Fifteen.
