The beginning

“Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.” Seneca

This week we are remembering the beginning.

Last year, I took some personal time when I started to feel the impact on my physical being of constant stress without relief. I reflected and reviewed and returned with a fresh determination to walk my talk … and a promise to myself that I would practice asking for help.

Operating independently in the world’s most expensive city is an ongoing adventure. Finding balance is a challenge echoed by our members who are pioneering new businesses today in service to tomorrow. Gone are the days of weekends away and the delicious holidays that came with a regular salary.

We get up early, stay up late, work more and play less and put our own health at risk for the health of our customers and our community and our environment.

Once again, our screens are peppered with gloom and doom with the new report released yesterday — a report commissioned in 2015 when we already knew that at change is no longer an option. This is not new information. We have been talking about a new awareness for at least 10 years.

Words are powerful and what we are talking about is pollution and waste.

Pollution — air, sea, land, light …

Waste — food, plastic, water …

The difference now is that issues like single-use plastic have made mainstream media headlines.

With your assistance, we will continue to serve our volunteers and organizations who offer real solutions.

To encourage you to join today as a paid member, I am offering you 2001 rates to be the change.

Spread the word in the weekly bulletin with a listing for your own business or sponsor non-profit.
