Memory

“Yesterday is but today’s memory, and tomorrow is today’s dream.”  Khalil Gibran

This week, we check in with the past.

The place of our ancestors is a hall of wisdom.

Our today is built on their adventures and losses.

We hear elders whisper stories of their ancient history.

Our memories are mingled with silent wishes and dreams.

There is sadness for those younger who left long before us.

My baby sister will turn 54 today but she will be 19 forever.

We mourn those who depart ahead of their twilight years.

Gratitude outweighs grief for a life lived long and well.

We lose more of our past lives with each passing day.

Tomorrow will arrive with fresh news to remember.

We can hear echoes of the past in the promises.

Pollution has been in all the papers for decades.

Articles and arguments and denials and blame.

But our world is more than the sum of stories.

New futures are born each time we gather.

Tomorrow flows out of our choices today.

We chose sustainability a long time ago.

Our members are opening new markets.

Yesterday is as valuable as its lessons.

Does your memory serve you well?
