This week, we are reflecting.
As the sun sets on another year, we are reviewing our progress before planning ahead.
2018 will be remembered as the year we came out.
It was the year we saw the people who used to roll their eyes at us become opinion leaders.
It was the year of the vegan, the arrival of conscious marketing, the birth of the eco-celebrity, the rise of the myth of #zerowaste, the recognition of living beings, the value of natural ecosystems, the acceptance of a circular economy and the beginning of the end of single-use plastic.
Karma and chakras and yoga and meditation are seeping into pop culture.
As polarizing as views may have been, there is no question that the dialogue has begun.
The doubters and judgers are being replaced by experts and social influencers.
We count on our media literacy skills to find actual sources behind the hype and bias and opinions.
Our role of simply connecting everyone evolved into qualifying members and providing free community resources to feed a growing appetite for trusted practical information in the desert mirage of green washing.
Like any other year, there was no shortage of sad stories. Before we said farewell to thousands of trees, we collected hundreds of kilos of plastic. We apologized to our beloved Billy and we determined to do better because we know we can.
And we welcomed new community angels Jac Vidgen, Shirley Kuo and Rosina Arquati.
After the first real break since 2001, the weekly newsletter resumed in August with a new look and a mobile format and plans to expand the membership directory on the new mobile platform.
Before we turn our attention to next year, we are mining the memories of this one for the nuggets of wisdom and learning and laughter that will lay a solid foundation and help us thrive in the future.
What treasures will you pack for tomorrow?
Naturally,
